Vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3 got hate because it abandoned so much of what made the pervious 2 game unique, for the sake of trying to be more like an American style video game, rather then a Japanese one something the devs themselves acknowledged as a mistake.Įnemies coward in Fear of Ryu, instead of fighting to their last breath like Pervious games, the game forces you as Ryu to kill that solider from the beginning begging for Mercy, to reinforced the idea that Ryu is possibly a "Murderer" this game try's to Humanize Ryu, a character who was never meant to be looked at as an actual human being, Ryu isn't a "normal person who happens to have powers he uses for good" He's not supposed to be like Spider-Man someone who has to deal with their normal life and being a super hero. At the same time, it's a testament to how skill-based this game truly is, but very doable even for an average-at-best gamer! Many battles went on for far too long admittedly, and the fact that you can't use healing items make it seem unfair. Then near the end I was able to beat two spider robot thingies at once, with only a fraction of the frustration! So yeah this is just a long rant to say that NG3RE is pretty awesome, the combat is just so visceral and satisfying. I nearly quit after the spider robot fight at the very beginning. In NG3RE I actually felt myself get better as I got further. than legit challenge (OK now maybe I'm knocking FromSoftware just a little bit LoL).

From Software games are more punishing than they are difficult, and wears you down with B.S. RE just made crystal clear the difference between challenging and punishing. of respawning enemies or having to respawn at idols/bonfires and making a trek just to redo a battle. I'm not knocking Sekiro or anything, it's just that I prefer the more straightforward structure of NG. Beating RE was far more satisfying than beating the 3 From Software titles I mentioned, and I would love to do it all over again. Now that I think about it, it took me nearly the same amount of time to beat NG3RE as it did to beat Isshin LoL (I know, I'm not very good!). There were definitely some extremely frustrating moments in RE, but at the end of it all, it was well worth it. The difficulty felt cheap at times, but what really constitutes "cheap?" I'm not gonna into that, but hard is hard (I beat RE on "normal," in case you're wondering), no matter how you slice it. Anyways, the dozen or so hours I spent with RE felt more intense than the 72 I spent on Sekiro. I've put in dozens of hours into those titles but haven't beaten them yet, so I can't really comment. BTW, I'm not forgetting about Nioh and Nioh 2. I'm thinking it took me at least a dozen hours, which is still considerably less than how long it took me to beat Sekiro. My official time on Razor's Edge is somewhere close to 6 hours, but I don't think it clocks the failed sections. I was quite shocked how hard RE still felt. I wanted to see how its difficulty compared to From Software titles, particularly Sekiro. I feel like a seasoned "hardcore" gamer now lol and wanted to test my chops on Razor's Edge. So here we are many eyars later, and I've since beaten the likes of Sekiro, Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. The difficulty spike was excessive in my opinion, with Team Ninja seemingly going overboard just to please the vocal minority.

I got Razor's Edge for the PS3 whenever it came out and didn't get too far. It was cinematic, the controls are responsive, the action was brutal and the animations are some of the best in the industry, with each combat scenario unfolding like a choreographed scene from an action flick. I still don't understand why to this day.

I beat the vanilla NG3 years ago when it first came out and I know that game got a lot of hate. I finally beat NG3RE thanks to the Master Collection.
